Does Nokia Lumia 800 Make a Big Bang?

Nokia Lumia 800 Windows PhoneThe UK market has been avidly waiting for the new Nokia Lumia 800. The wait was over on November 16th when this mobile hit stores in the UK and other European countries. This is the first Nokia phone to be featuring Mango (Windows Phone 7.5) and everybody wants to see what improvement or downfall this change will result in. We have tried Nokia Lumia 800 and here is our verdict on this smartphone.

Features of Nokia Lumia 800

First of all, there is no doubt that this handset is awesome to look at, even though it is reminiscent of Nokia N9. It is one of those stylish designs you never get bored of, plus it comes in three awesome colors- Cool cyan, pretty magenta and sleek black. All three colors appeal to different target markets. The handset also comes with 3.7 inch  AMOLED ClearBlack glass touchscreen and body made of polycarbonate. This protects the phone from hard surfaces and mishaps. Nokia has also added a rubbery finish to the chassis, for extra protection from bumps and scratches.

The phone is also accompanied by an 8 Megapixel camera on the back but sadly it doesn’t have a front-facing camera. This means you don’t have the option of video conferencing. However, the front camera has Carl Zeiss optics which differentiates Lumia 800 from its competitors supporting Windows. Unfortunately, the camera is really not that impressive and Nokia’s competitors’ cameras easily beat the Lumia 800’s camera. The handset can record videos only up to 720p resolution, and the result is sharp and good quality.

The smartphone supports single-core processor, which is compensated by the 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 and an Ardeno 205 GPU. Plus it has 16 GB memory for internal storage and 512 MB of RAM. Do note that the Nokia Lumia 800 doesn’t come with a MircoSD card slot because Windows Phones can’t support external storage.

Now, the main feature of Nokia Lumia 800: its operating system. The new interface is delightful and easy to use. One can view the applications on the screen with 3D effect that makes it flexible to manage. The mobile also has the best version of Microsoft Office which makes it simple to create and edit any documents. In addition, its key features such as “people hub” is impressive. On the other hand, the smartphone does not support Adobe Flash. This can be a disappointment for users who would want to use the fabulous screen to watch videos online.

Nokia was the only company allowed to customize the operating system but the fact is that it really didn’t take full advantage of this factor. Still some new additions in Nokia’s applications are Nokia Drive and its music application. Lastly, Nokia’s phones are famous for good battery life; this is not the case with Nokia Lumia 800. To round it up, thumbs up for Nokia for releasing a smart phone that does justice to the operating system. Although some of its features are not as great as it would have been, it is still a stylish and reliable handset.

Is Galaxy Nexus a Smartphone Out of This Galaxy?

Google Nexus S

The Galaxy Nexus is a much anticipated collaboration between Samsung and Google and will officially launch in UK on the 17th November. After Google and Samsung received a favorable reception for Nexus S in 2010, Google and Samsung teamed together again to create another smartphone. Was it worth it? Let’s find out.

Features of Galaxy Nexus

The most awesome thing about this handset is its massive 4.65 inch screen with an awesome 1280 X 720 display resolution. In fact, the Super AMOLED screen produces super crisp images which are comparable to that of the iPhone. Also considering its dimension, 67.94 X 13.5 X 9.47, it only weight 150 grams. Not bad for such a big handset.

Next thing in favor of Galaxy Nexus is the fact that it is the first phone to support the latest operating system of Google – Ice Cream Sandwich.  This operating system is suppose to incorporate the features of tablet versions of Android. On the screen you will see the three main buttons – Home, Back and Multi-tasking.  The multi-tasking button will easily list all the applications, stacked like a tower of little boxes. The user interface is not complicated and once you play around with this smartphone, you will under understand it better.

There are also some useful additions to the Nexus Galaxy. For example, you can save the webpages for offline reading. This is handy feature if you need some important information like recipes, instructions on how to fix something or directions. You can also resize widgets and handle all your folders better. In addition this smartphone can also dictate text messages for you. This feature is nothing like Siri from iPhone 4S, nevertheless it is a useful feature to have. Another interesting feature about this handset is that it unlocks by recognizing your face! An excellent way to keep nosy people off your phone. The phone also lets you send pre-programmed texts to incoming calls when you are busy.

The smartphone also runs on dual core processor at 1.2 GHZ. We have nothing to complain about the speed. Even the internet browsing is pretty fast. The hand set is also equipped with a 5 mega pixel camera. Yes that is very shocking especially when you think that there are smartphones out there with 8 mega pixel cameras. However, to be fair to Galaxy Nexus, it still manages to produce vibrant images. In addition, there is also a 1.3 front mega pixel camera to play around with.

Conclusion

To wrap it up the new operating system is definitely worth a look. One might be disappointed with the boring design of the Android phone, but the disappointment won’t last long.

The Original iPhone to iPhone 4S!

iphone 4s

Anybody who is an important somebody has held an iPhone and even used it. Today the latest iPhone 4S is totally different from the original iPhone. But if you look back 4 years ago when the first iPhone was released in 2007, it was a smartphone out of this world. For it was the first handheld phone to release touch screen technology with breakthrough internet communicator.

Steve Jobs, late co-founder of Apple didn’t stop at that. A man who was finicky about details and wanted to give the best to the public kept improving the iPhone each year since 2007!

It is no wonder that just a year after the release of the first iPhone, Apple released iPhone 3G. This smartphone didn’t get much upgrade in its features; however it did have some major improvements in its internet and networking capabilities.

In 2009, a more advanced and capable iPhone was released in the form iPhone 3GS.  Not only did it have faster performance, it also finally had a high resolution camera with video capability and voice control. It also supported better downloading speed thanks to the 7.2 Mbit/s High-Speed Downlink Packet Access. In fact, the “S” in iPhone 3GS stands for speed.

By this time around, iPhone had gained so much popularity that fans wouldn’t wait to know about the new features of the next Apple’s smartphone ‘iPhone 4.’ Apple had to combat two major leaks before iPhone 4 was safely released. The iPhone 4 unique selling points was its video calling feature, speed and its flexibility in using different media like books, periodicals, movies, music, games and internet access.  This was in June 7, 2010.

This year Apple made fans wait for the new iPhone for more than one year. Apple didn’t want a repeat performance of last year leak, therefore, it guarded its new iPhone with full security. Rumors and speculations were finally put to rest when Apple held a conference on 4th October that was called “Lets talk iPhone.”

Internet bloggers had created so much hype before iPhone 4S unveiling; many fans expected a completely redesigned iPhone 5. Therefore, there were a lot of cries and complains when iPhone 4S was displayed by Tim Cook. At first look, fans hated it (it looked very much like old iPhone 4), however, when fans had a second and third glance, they were crazy about the iPhone 4S again.

IPhone 4S is cool, no doubt. It has many features like the dual-core AS5 chip, Siri, advanced camera and many more. However, there is sad part behind this iPhone. This is the last iPhone to be made under the supervision of Steve Jobs because he passed away on 5th October. Ironically many people have pointed out that iPhone’s 4S might stand for “For Steve.”We just think it is one great big coincidence because Apple didn’t verify anything. In the end, it really doesn’t matter because this iPhone is a worthy dedication to Steve.

Siri – Apple’s Best Feature Yet!

iPhone 5On 4th October, when Apple announced that they were only releasing iPhone 4S and notthe much awaited and anticipated squeaky new iPhone 5, a wave of disappointment fell on Apple’s fans.  It took only a week, for the gloom and complains to disappear when people all over the world discovered the benefits of Apple’s new features.

First all the new iPhone is equipped with the dual-core A5 chip which combined with latest operating system iOS 5 delivers amazing graphic and great experience to the user. Secondly, with the latest update of iPhone 4S to an 8 mega pixel camera, now when you carry your iPhone 4S, it is equivalent to carrying a professional camera. The images clicked from this smartphone are simply “WOW” thanks to lot of the improvement done by Apple.

Thirdly there is the “iCloud”, an advance version of MobileMe. The iCloud is cloud storage that helps store your data wirelessly so that you never lose your precious data. That is not all folks! The last features of iPhone 4S will make you feel as if you have jumped into the future. Meet your new assistant packaged in aluminosilicate glass and stainless steel – Siri

What is Siri?

Siri is a technology beyond ordinary voice recognition because it can do useful things for you that currently no other smartphone can! If you are busy driving, just ask Siri to send any urgent text for you. All you need to do is dictate things to it. You can also ask this virtual assistant to remind important things to you!

Do you forget to shop for things when you leave your office? Just tell Siri to remind you to shop the next time you leave the office. As soon as you step out of the building Siri will efficiently remind you to go shopping. It can also reschedule your appointments without you inputting the data. In short Siri is advanced enough to understand natural language.

To top it up, it comes with a great and quirky sense of humor. When a user overwhelmed with his love for Siri said “I love you Siri.” Its reply was “Impossible.” When the user stressed that he really loved it, Siri said, “I hope you don’t say that to other mobiles phones.” Siri says such funny things to some of the most valid questions that now websites are being made which includes its funny replies to many different questions.

What’s more is that it is currently a beta project only. Therefore you can expect Apple to further polish Siri’s features in the near future.
